Dear Rebecca Wallace (of OSPI),
To many, the future of our planet is uncertain. They believe that the damage we have done to our oceans, our lakes, our forests, our grasslands and everything in between is irreversible. They think we have no way of coming back from it. Well we do not agree, and our theme is extremely symbolic of that! The Clean Tech Competition has been going since 2012 on the ideal that our future is not certain. We believe we are far from along in this, and we hope that you and your students feel the same way. If they have begun to work on a solution, then we encourage you to have them register their idea! If they have not, then we hope that maybe all they need is a little push, and that you are the force which will do so.
The Clean Tech Competition is an international research and design challenge for 15-18 year old pre-university students. It is a way for students to test their ideas against both a global issue, as well as competitors with very different experiences than their own. We have found students tend to choose to solve problems that affect their local region the most, and we encourage this! There are so many unique situations, and we want as many addressed as possible. The registration period is soon drawing to a close, so we suggest entering soon, but there is still plenty of time for students to work on their paper before the submission date so they have plenty of time if they are still undecided!
