OpenSciEd "Try-Outs" in WA: Introductions to released units and the ability to borrow kits!

Announcing MS teachers: OpenSciEd materials "try-outs" OpenSciEd is a partnership of the NGSS brain-trust folks and several big foundations. They have been developing a complete 6-8 scope and sequence as Open Educational Resources (OERs). NWESD, together with ESD 114 and ESD 112 are supporting people in using these units by providing a "try out" service. With the help of the ClimeTime Climate Science Proviso, NWESD has purchased all of the materials for 5 of the 6 currently-released units and NWESD regional districts will be able to check these out for teachers to use so they can "try out" teaching a unit! Professional Learning First! Teachers must first complete some 6-hours of online introductory classes to qualify to check the materials out ( https://bit.ly/gettingtoknow-openscied ). ISB Systems Science for HS Teachers @NWESD! Recruiting HS Science Teacher Teams NOW!

What: As part of our ClimeTime Climate Science work next year, the NWESD is excited to partner with ISB on a program for HS teachers. We are recruiting  now  even though we don't have the funding in-hand yet.  Who Should Act? Teachers will sign up as part of a team and will receive 18 hours of training in August on two of ISB's NGSS-aligned instructional units. ISB has been an amazing partner to statewide science education for years and we are lucky to get to work with them! More Information Online! From the Museum of Flight about Summer Education Programs

Greetings, esteemed members of the Boeing Academy for STEM Learning Advisory Committee!   While Summer 2020 may not be operating as usual for our Museum education programs, there will still be many exciting opportunities for our youth to engage in fun and impactful learning experiences through our Boeing Academy for STEM Learning.  We are sharing some of those opportunities with you in this message.    One of our newly-developed virtual offerings will be a 75-hour course called Aeronautical Explorations*, which will be taught by Museum educators and pilots Michael Graham and Captain Coleman Boettger. This is an exploratory course that will allow participants (rising 9 th through 12 th graders) to interact with aerospace/aviation professionals, enhance their resume, develop a network of people who can help them get where they want to go, and be even better prepared for their future upon course completion.
