Subject: Teacher/Scientist Partnership - Summer Ecology PD for Secondary Teachers at PNNL!

I would like to share an exciting opportunity brought to you by PNNL and Association of Washington Business.  This is for secondary teacher teams (grades 6-12) in public or private schools in Washington State.  I am attaching a flyer to give you the finer details but I encourage you to also watch this video, taken at the end of last year's experience.  You can hear the voices of the teachers who participated in the weeklong immersion into Ecology:  https://Vimeo.com/247015906

Please take a look at the flyer and share widely.  We are taking applications now.  It will be on a first-come-first-serve basis for teams with completed application information submitted to me.

Each teacher would receive $1000 stipend to cover their time.  Also available is funding to cover additional expenses depending on a teacher team's distance from PNNL.  Lodging in Tri Cities will also be available for those who need it.

Who:  Secondary teachers (grades 6-12) in teams of at least two from the same school or district.
What:  AWB/PNNL STEM Institute – an immersion into the world of Ecology as practices by STEM professionals Janelle Downs, Kyle Larson, and Alison Colotelo from PNNL.
When:  August 5 – 10, 2018
Where:  At PNNL and in the fields and rivers of SE Washington
Why:  Experiencing first-hand the nature of science and the Next Generation Science Standards

I look forward to hearing back from you if you have any questions.  Thanks so much for sharing this information.

Peggy

From Museum of Flight: Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) Recruitment now underway!

FROM THIS PAGE: [ LINK ] Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) is an online distance learning course and summer experience specifically designed for high school sophomores and juniors interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The online curriculum is a University of Washington college course focused on NASA’s space exploration program as well as topics in earth and space science. If they successfully complete the online curriculum, students are invited to participate in multi-day summer experiences that provide them to the opportunity to work with STEM professionals, NASA scientists, university students and STEM educators. Why should a student participate in WAS? Participating in the online distance learning course helps students understand the components and expectations for college level coursework while they are still in high school, particularly the importance of good time management and the ability to prioritize.
